About me

Through my writing, retreats, and classes, I strive to expand the narratives we inherited about how to love and live. My work focuses on unconventional romance, friendship, and family, and on how these new ways of relating can serve as the foundation for building communities. I believe storytelling is a powerful tool for fostering empathy and inclusivity, and that great stories allow us to understand ourselves–or others–better.

Queer & Polyamorous Storyteller and Educator

How I started crafting new narratives of love, family, and identity.

For a long time, I thought I was broken. I didn’t see myself in any of the books, movies, or shows I was exposed to. The lives of others around me were not appealing. I wasn’t straight, but I wasn’t gay. I wanted lasting romantic love, but I felt claustrophobic in monogamy. I felt deep discomfort with womanhood, but knew manhood was wrong for me, too.

When I moved from Montreal to New York City, more than a decade ago, the anonymity that the city affords allowed me to explore the parts of myself I’d repressed; my queerness, my gender fluidity, my desire for multiple partners. I discovered that it’s possible to design relationships that break the traditional mold, and live as if my life itself was my art.

I started writing, just for fun. Stories I wished I could have accessed when I was younger. I ended up with a solo storytelling show. After each performance, audience members would tell me how much they needed to hear my journey. This encouraged me to keep going.

I started writing and publishing essays, and I completed a draft of my memoir. When I assessed the various routes to publication for my first book, I realized I wanted to share my story on my own terms, so I co-founded Quilted Press, a collective of independent authors. Entwined: Essays on Polyamory and Creating Home was published in February 2024.
